Hot Air Ballooning in Moab UT

This summer we took the opportunity to go hot air ballooning over the canyons near Moab UT. Lou Bartel, owner of and pilot for Canyonlands Ballooning, and his crew were great and it was a wonderful experience. Lou was kind enough to invite me to ride along in the chase vehicle on a subsequent flight which gave me the opportunity to get some shots of the balloon from the ground. If you ever find yourself in Moab I highly recommend you give Lou a call.

It's always an exciting experience to encounter a black bear in the wild. Though feared by many these animals are really quite timid and will usually flee if you get too close to them.

The boreal forest accounts for about one third of the earth's total forest area and is the single largest terrestrial ecosystem on the planet. It boasts a diverse variety of bird species, some of which inhabit both North America and Eurasia.

Photographed in Wyoming. The word mustang comes from the Spanish word, mustengo, which means ownerless beast. The American mustangs came from Spanish horses brought to the Americas in the 16th Century that escaped and became feral. Over time, other kinds imported horses joined with wild Spanish horses, including quarter horses and draught horses.

Monument Valley

Monument Valley provides perhaps the most enduring and definitive images of theAmerican West. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years and were the locations for many western movies and television shows including the westerns directed by the legendary John Ford . Because of this the area may seem quite familiar, even on a first visit. You may have seen photographs that appear oversaturated but it is soon evident upon visiting the area that the natural colours really are as bright and deep as those in all the pictures.

Monument Valley isn't actually a valley but rather a wide flat landscape, interrupted by randomly placed towering formations rising hundreds of feet into the air, the last remnants of the sandstone layers that once covered the entire region.
